Who is Abbey Spivey?

I’ve always dreamed big. My first dream job was to be a lawyer like Elle Woods, then I wanted to be a singer, dancer, actress, youtube, you name it. In high school, I wanted to attend FIT in New York to study Fashion Marketing & advertising. However, New York wasn’t really in my budget. So I followed in my older sister’s footsteps and went to Western Washington University.

When I first got there I was planning to pursue graphic design. However, after many crying sessions during registration because I couldn't sign up for the classes I wanted, I figured I’d study communications, because that’s what you do when you don’t know what to do - right? I always had a passion for social media, so I thought this sounded like a good fit.

I still felt like I was missing something, a community. All of my friends were a part of clubs or organizations and I felt like I had nothing. My friend (and little did I know my future mentor) told me I should go to the Student Marketing Association with her. It sounded cool, but I’m not studying marketing. Is that weird if I go ?? Maybe, but I convinced one of my roommates to go with me so I wouldn’t be alone.

That day changed everything. During that meeting at SMA, Abigale and Tiffany were talking about the Integrated Marketing Communications class; they were showing us their websites, resumes, and everything they learned in photoshop. My mind was blown! This is what I have been searching for. This was the creative type of class I had been missing out on. Not only did I find this amazing community of like-minded students, but I also changed my entire academic path to join this program.

Fast-forward and I was an SMA officer for 2 years, including being President my senior year. I ended up graduating from Western Washington University as the Outstanding Graduate in the Marketing Program, having been elected by the Marketing faculty; this is one of the biggest honors I have received.

Naturally, I am a creative individual with a drive to lead others. My goal as a marketer is to help community-focused brands create fully syndicated media strategies that are understandable and aesthetically on-trend to enhance the brand experience and cultivate meaningful connections. I’m a lover of all things pop culture and am a major nerd for excellent branding. I am interested in content marketing, creative strategy, integrated marketing communications, advertising, social media, SEO, and design. I love everything Gen Z and the shift in Gen Z culture.
